Okay, so we weren't really in Italy...just Long Beach! Last night we went out with our friends David and Alisa. We started off at their apartment for "snack dinner," where everyone brings their favorite appetizer. We had spring rolls, mini crab cakes, mini London broil sandwiches with bleu cheese, and brie with raspberries in a pastry shell. It was delicious!
After snack dinner we headed down to Naples island to take a ride in a gondola. It was such an awesome experience! They provide an ice bucket for anything you need chilled, and a basket of cheese, bread and salami to snack on. We took a couple of bottles of Bellini (peach champagne). They also provide a blanket for each couple luckily because it was C-O-L-D! Although we had blankets, the gondolier told us that the best way to stay warm is to make out. We were more than happy to follow his suggestion! We had been worried that we would get rained out, but fortunately the weather cooperated.
Naples is full of million dollar+ homes and they go all out with Christmas decorations so the gondolier takes you through all the canals in Napes (which we learned are in the shape of a 9) and you see lots of Christmas lights. Our gondolier told us that it's an Italian tradition to kiss every time you go under a bridge- lucky for us there was lots of bridges!
It was definitely an experience I won't soon forget.
