18 weeks to go! We are over halfway there!!
Well, in the past week we have spent two nights in Labor & Delivery at St. Jude. Don't worry, Jack is fine! Mommy on the other hand...not so fine.
Monday morning at about midnight I had the most unbelievable gas. I'm not kidding when I say it was the worst pain I'd ever been in. I couldn't sit, stand, walk, breathe...nothing. I took tums and it did nothing, so Jeff and I decided to head to the ER thinking they could give me something stronger.
We arrived and checked in and because I was more than 20 weeks pregnant, they sent me right to L&D. They got me settled into a room and hooked me up to the fetal monitor. They called the OB on call who happened to be my doctor, Dr. Lin. She sent me downstairs for an ultrasound of my liver, spleen, kidneys, appendix, and gallbladder. They also drew blood. The ultrasound was bad...I threw up...a lot.
We got back upstairs and they gave me a GI cocktail which was Maalox, lidocane and a pain reliever (the name escapes me). It helped SO much. I was finally able to get some sleep. Jeff was amazing and never left my side. He asked the nurses lots of questions and made sure I was being well cared for.
The Dr. finally came in and explained that I had gallstones. Apparently I have several in there and that is what was causing the pain. I happened to have had a very heavy dinner that night which is likely what brought on the gallbladder attack. They finally let me go but I have to see a surgeon Monday morning to go over my options. The OB explained that the second trimester of pregnancy is the best time to do surgery if you have to so it sounds like it may be happening sooner rather than later.
In the meantime I am on a low fat, low sodium diet. Can I just say how much it sucks!? Preggers are supposed to be able to eat whatever they want...not be on a DIET! But, keeping me and Jack healthy is the most important thing right now.
We see the surgeon Monday at 10:45 and that's also the same morning we were supposed to leave for San Diego. Pray that we are still able to make our trip!
Phew! I think I've got you all caught up....
