Jack has his first cold. We have done our best to protect him while he is still small. I know we drove everyone crazy with the hand washing, hand sanitizer and baby wipes, but we made it nearly 5 months before he got sick! Watching this poor little guy struggle to breathe through his stuffy nose is so painful. It breaks my heart to hear him at night...and we both keep getting up to check on him.
He started getting stuffy yesterday and last night it all went downhill. He slept from 7-1:30 and then I couldn't get him back down until 4 a.m. I took him downstairs so Jeff could sleep and also so that I could put him in his swing where his head would be elevated. He wanted nothing but to be held. So he slept in my arms and I sat up all night making sure he was okay :(
I called the doctor and was able to get him in to see Holly (his PA who we adore) this afternoon. I am so thankful that Jeff has an understanding boss because he worked a half day and came home just in time to head to the doctor with us. When we got home he took Jack so that I could take a nap- I was running on about 2 hours of sleep. There isn't much we can do for him other than run the humidifier, use saline nose drops, and suck the mucus out of his nose. We figured as much but we're nervous new parents and our baby is sick for the first time, so we wanted some reassurance that he was okay. Holly gave us the signs to look for to know he is in respiratory distress (which he is not)- that's one of the things we like about her. Instead of just telling us his breathing was fine, she let us know what to look for so that if his chest is congested we know to bring him in.
Our little guy is such a trooper though- with his runny nose, cough and pink puffy eyes, he still has his smile. Melts my heart every time I see it and I wish I could just make his cold go away!
