6 months

Wow- our baby boy is half a year old already. Where does the time go?

We had his 6 month well baby visit on Thursday and it went very well. He is 20 pounds and 27 inches- definitely a chunker! It was an eventful visit as all three of us got shots. There has been a rise in whooping cough- especially in CA- and our doctor's office has seen 3 cases. So Jeff and I both got vaccinated. Thankfully so did the grandparents and Auntie Kathy who are always around Jack. The best way to protect little ones is to vaccinate yourself. Jack won't be fully immunized until between 15 and 18 months so it was important for the adults to have the vaccine.

We also got the green light to start solid foods. Our doctor recommended waiting until 6 months because Jack is exclusively breast fed and a breast fed baby doesn't actually need food until one year. We were also hoping that waiting longer would allow his digestive system to develop more and his reflux to be under control. Thankfully we feel as though he has almost totally outgrown the reflux. We're down to giving Zantac only at night to help him sleep.

Yesterday we gave him Gerber organic oatmeal for his first meal. To say he loved it is an understatement. He would bounce up and down as soon as he saw the spoon. If you hold the spoon out he bounces up and down with his mouth wide open trying to get the food. Our boy very quickly figured out the whole eating thing and is now on his way to being a hearty eater. We also got the green light to try other liquids such as water or very diluted juice. We attempted giving him water in a sippy cup and I think it will take him awhile to get the hang of it. He didn't like it though once he got a taste and realized what was in the cup, LOL.

He still isn't sleeping through the night, but that is okay with me. I get up 1-2 times on a normal night to feed him. He has decided to give his mommy a heart attack and sleep face down smashed against the bumpers. He does sleep more soundly on his tummy but it makes me worry! He is also sitting on his own. He can't pull himself into a sitting position yet, but if you sit him down he'll stay that way.

Who told my baby he could grow up?
