Last night was my niece Nikki's 21st birthday. We had a great time celebrating! We met at my sister's house so she could open gifts, and then a limo picked us up (courtesy of her grandma MeMe) to take us to dinner (courtesy of grandma and grandpa) at the Magic Castle in Hollywood. I had never been to the Magic Castle so I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but it turned out to be a fun place. When we arrived, we had to give a secret password to an owl statue before we could proceed through a magic bookcase. From the lobby you have no idea how big the place really is!
We arrived around 6:30 and since dinner wasn't until 9:30, we had plenty of time to explore and see some shows. We started with a small tour but we ditched our tour guide after just a few minutes because, well...she was boring and the Feighery's make fun all on our own- we didn't need that lady! So we got some drinks and waited in line to see our first magic show- Doug Brewer. It was in the "close-up gallery" and the show was amazing! The theatre sat about 22 people so everyone had a really great view.
There are tables topped in green felt on every floor which indicates that there will be a magician doing some type of magic there. So, after Doug we wandered around a little and found another magician in the basement doing card tricks. On our way back up to the main floor we passed yet another magician so we stopped and sat at his table- boy did we make a good decision. His name was Bill Joslin and he had us rolling in laughter! He was sort of a comedian meets magician. He told stories of Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin, all the while doing his card tricks. If you're ever at the Magic Castle, look for him swigging his Jack Daniels and take a minute to see his tricks- you'll be glad you did!
Dinner was amazing as well, I had salmon with the most delicious Parmesan mashed potatoes. Since it was Nikki's birthday, Kathy made arrangements with the maƮtre d' to do something special for her. We were rolling in laughter yet again when a sorcerer- long white beard and hat included- and the waiter came up with a beautiful cake for Nikki. We were so impressed with this gorgeous cake until the sorcerer said, "magic cake," picked it up and revealed a small chocolate cupcake!
I definitely think it was a great choice for Nikki's 21st birthday and it was such a fun night to get dressed up, take a limo ride and enjoy some fun with the family.
