Jeff's mom gave us a gift certificate to the Laemmle theater in claremont for Christmas and we finally got around to using it today. For those of you that live near Claremont I highly highly recommend this theater! It is a smaller theater (but it does have stadium style seating) but it is so clean and quiet. The best part is that matinees are only $7! So... on to my review of WALL-E.
The latest Disney/Pixar creation is this little robot named WALL-E. If anyone can create believable human emotion in an animated robot, it's Disney. You really feel the emotions WALL-E feels when he falls in love with a female robot named Eva. He is left on Earth to clean up the mess created by a giant chain store named Buy N Large (think Super Wal-Mart). The store sells so much over-sized stuff that it takes over the Earth. All the people are packed onto a space ship for a 5 year cruise while the robots clean up the mess.
This movie has an underlying message of consumerism and over-consumption. The reason that the humans are all sent to space is because the Earth is literally covered with the trash from all the things they buy from Buy N Large. It's a good reminder to think about the Earth around us and how all of our "things" impact society and the future of our planet.
Go see WALL-E!
