Today we went to one of our favorite places- The Grove/Farmer's Market in L.A. We love to wander the booths in the Farmer's Market and sample all the different foods they have to offer. Once we're sufficiently stuffed, we grab a cup of coffee from good ol Starbucks and head over to the Grove side.
The Farmer's Market has a ton of booths with any kind of food you can imagine..sushi, barbecue, crepes, Greek...it's all there! Today we tried the shrimp and meat loaf Po'boy sandwiches from the GumboPot. Best shrimp sandwich ever- it was fried in a crunchy batter and on the softest bread I've ever eaten. I was a little wary of biting into the lemon slices inside the sandwich but it was surprisingly the perfect addition. After lunch we popped into the Three Dog Bakery and checked out all their homemade dog treats. Of course I had to buy something for Luna so I got her a "snickerpoodle" and a "Muttaroon." Too cute!
The Grove is my absolute favorite spot to people watch. You see the strangest people in L.A.! The overall theme today seemed to be men wearing low-cut v-neck tee shirts- WHY?? The Grove is basically an outdoor mall with tons of restaurants, a movie theater and even a small art gallery. There is a huge fountain towards one end of the mall that was designed by the same people who did the fountains at the Bellagio hotel in Las Vegas. Every so often there is a water show set to music.
My favorite thing to do at the Grove is to ride the big, green, double decker trolley. Unfortunately today I discovered that the trolley is under refurbishment until November! It was a bummer but we still had a great day.
Before we left we stopped by the Bennett refreshment stand inside the Farmer's Market. You would not believe the selection of sodas they have! Most come in glass bottles and they have fun flavors like habanero pepper soda. Jeff tried Bennett's own lemon soda and I tried the Thomas Kemper grape soda. It was definitely a fun treat to end our great day out.
