Mamma Mia!

I had never really heard ABBA music when I saw this musical in L.A. a few years ago, but it turned out to be one of the best shows I've ever seen. Needless to say I could not wait to see the movie. Colin Firth and Pierce Brosnan...need I say more?

It is set very much like a typical stage musical- very little dialogue and mostly singing. The story features young Sophie (Amanda Seyfried from Mean Girls) and her impending nuptials on a small Greek Island. She finds her mother's (played by Meryl Streep) diary and discovers that she has three possible fathers- and invites all three to the wedding. The story follows Sophie, Sam (Pierce Brosnan), Bill (Stellan Skarsgard) and Harry (Colin Firth) as they struggle to define their relationships and why they were invited to the wedding. The story is a bit predictable, but the dancing, singing and over-the-top perfomance aspect make the predictability merely an after thought.

Aside from Pierce Brosnan's atrocious singing this has to be the most fun movie of the summer. It is impossibly cheesy but you can't help but laugh and smile because it is so entertaining. I definitely recommend staying through the credits!
